This unique and highly versatile program offers several trades in one for the student who is interested in becoming a skilled craftsperson in a variety of trades. This comprehensive multi-craft training program includes plumbing, electricity, glazing and glass cutting, machining, woodworking, finish carpentry, welding, locksmithing, painting and surface preparation, masonry, interior and exterior wall finishing and boiler system maintenance. Students will also receive instruction in blueprint reading, building codes, estimating, property management, and real estate. Although students are required to participate in all the curriculum areas, students can choose to “major” in one or more of the skill areas such as plumbing, carpentry or electricity during their second year of the program.
Students will also learn about new GREEN TECHNOLOGIES related to the construction industry. House energy audits will be studied and students will learn how to make homes and commercial properties more energy efficient utilizing alternative energy sources and GREEN BUILDING TECHNOLOGY resources. The BUILDING TRADES program continues to have one of the highest job placement rates in the school. Graduates can enter the workforce as a maintenance mechanic, maintenance engineer, carpenter’s assistant, plumber’s assistant, electrician’s assistant, mason, glass cutter or glazier and much more. Employment possibilities range from individual building complexes to manufacturing and industrial companies, school districts, hotels, airports, and large commercial operations. Program graduates have the option to enter apprenticeship programs after high school. Many graduates choose to continue their education at two and four year colleges in such majors as Civil/Construction Engineering, Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering or other related fields.
