To meet the needs of the food service industry, UCTECH offers a unique CULINARY ARTS program for the serious student interested in becoming a professional chef or food preparer. Offering premier food service education, the CULINARY ARTS program introduces the student to a variety of food preparation techniques from cooking principles to gourmet food preparation. The educational setting for the program is a fully equipped, state-of-the-art commercial kitchen, and the program is under the guidance of our professional chef instructor.Students in CULINARY ARTS are taught the preparation of stocks, soups, sauces, salads, meats, fish, shellfish, poultry and vegetables. Portion control, food presentation, garnishing and the preparation of desserts are important elements of the curriculum. In addition, instructional areas include safety and sanitation, proper use of tools and equipment, purchasing, inventory control, menu planning, diet and nutrition, serving, butchering, food service management and kitchen operations. Graduates of the program can choose to enter the industry in a variety of professional positions such as a chef, sous chef, banquet cook, prep cook, line cook or first cook. Many graduates choose to continue their education by pursuing college degrees in culinary arts. Whatever a graduate chooses to do, he or she will have a solid foundation on which to build an exciting future in the food service and hospitality industries.
